A hot air balloon tether involves attaching several strong ropes from the balloon to fixed points on the ground. The balloon can rise a limited distance and then return to the ground. Passengers (public or company employees) can be taken "up" to experience the feeling of a balloon ride. Tethers are popular at picnics, reunions, grand openings, specialty advertising, and other outdoor celebration events.
As with a balloon flight, tethers are typically conducted within a few hours after sunrise or a few hours before sunset and are weather permitting.
